Perfect Mercy

In 2005, I was semi-living in Chicago trying to help nurse my dying grandmother. Anyone who has done this knows it is an incredibly exhausting labor of love. I had plopped down in the over-stuffed chair in the living room. My sister had adopted a cute, cuddly kitten. I wrote this poem in 5 minutes flat. It was one of those times. I unearthed this today while I was packing.
I had forgotten all about it...perhaps I'll find a money stash next!

Perfect Mercy

Stretched out in my easy chair,
A moment of respite in a day...
Without mercy - Woosh!
Pleasant, perfect surprise.
A smile plays my face
My lap full of softness
Motor hums of utter contentment.
Hands and arms join the dance
Bringing softness to my face
Meow! Perfect moment of mercy.
